Ground Rod Clamp Manufacturer India

The earthing rod is only as effective as the connection made to it. Drive a copper bonded ground rod to the correct depth, in the correct soil, with the correct electrode resistance — and then terminate the down conductor with an undersized, poorly fitted, or corroding clamp — and you have built a high-resistance fault point into the one component of your earthing system that exists precisely to handle fault current.

HEX Worldwide manufactures a comprehensive range of ground rod clamps engineered for permanent, low-resistance conductor-to-electrode bonding. Our clamps are designed for the full HEX range of copper bonded, solid copper, and stainless steel grounding rods, and are compatible with IS 3043 and IEEE 80 earthing system specifications. With over 30 years of manufacturing experience and ISO 9001 certification, HEX is a trusted single-source supplier for complete earthing system hardware across India and export markets.

Types of Ground Rod Clamps

HEX manufactures ground rod clamps to suit every rod type, conductor form, and installation depth encountered in Indian and international earthing practice.

The most widely specified clamp in Indian building and industrial earthing. Engages the threaded top section of the copper bonded rod for a positive mechanical lock that prevents slipping under lateral conductor pull or vibration. Suitable for surface-level and shallow-burial installation.

For Copper Bonded Rods — Unthreaded

For installations where the rod is driven to depth and a threaded engagement is not practical. The unthreaded driving clamp bites mechanically into the rod body at any point along the shaft — including below grade — using controlled clamping force.

For Solid Copper Rods

Dimensioned and calibrated for the larger diameter and higher surface hardness of solid copper grounding rods. Available for both internally and externally threaded solid copper rod variants.

For Stainless Steel Rods

Designed for aggressive soil environments where stainless steel electrodes are specified. Hardware and body materials are selected to minimise galvanic potential difference at the SS rod interface.

Specifying the correct clamp for your earthing system requires matching four parameters. Errors in any one of them compromise the system.

Selection ParameterOptionsHow to Confirm
Rod materialCopper bonded / Solid copper / Stainless steel / GalvanisedFrom project specification or electrode datasheet
Rod diameter (mm)14.2, 16, 17.2, 20, 25 mm (most common)From rod datasheet — do not assume from nominal size
Conductor typeStranded bare copper (mm²) or flat copper tape (mm × mm)From earthing system drawing
Installation methodSurface level / threaded rod top / buried mid-shaftFrom electrode installation detail drawing

Key selection rules:

  • Always match the clamp to the rod material — never use a copper or silicon bronze clamp on a galvanised steel rod (galvanic incompatibility will corrode the zinc coating)
  • For tape-to-rod connections, specify the rod-to-tape clamp variant — a stranded conductor clamp will not provide adequate contact area against a flat tape surface
  • For rods driven to depth where the clamp must be installed below ground level, specify the unthreaded driving clamp with a burial-rated conductor entry

FAQ — Ground Rod Clamp Installation & Selection

What is a ground rod clamp used for?

A ground rod clamp (also called an earthing rod clamp or grounding rod connector) mechanically bonds the above-ground earthing conductor — a bare copper tape or stranded copper down conductor — to the buried ground electrode rod, completing the circuit between the surface earthing network and the soil electrode. It is a critical interface in any IS 3043-compliant earthing system.

IS 3043 requires non-ferrous clamp materials for buried connections because ferrous metals — including mild steel and galvanised steel — are susceptible to soil corrosion that progressively increases contact resistance and can lead to open-circuit conditions at the clamp. Non-ferrous materials such as silicon bronze and copper are significantly more resistant to soil corrosion and maintain reliable contact over the design life of the earthing system.

Generally, no. Copper bonded rods and solid copper rods differ in diameter, surface finish, and hardness. Using a clamp dimensioned for a copper bonded rod on a solid copper rod of the same nominal size will likely result in an incorrectly seated, under-clamped connection. Always specify the clamp variant that matches the rod type and diameter on your project.

Torque depends on bolt diameter: M10 silicon bronze hardware is torqued to 25–30 Nm; M12 hardware to 40–45 Nm. Use a calibrated torque wrench — under-torquing leaves contact resistance higher than specified, and over-torquing risks cracking the clamp body. Torque values are specified on the product datasheet supplied with each clamp.

Yes. HEX can supply matched earthing system packages: copper bonded rods + ground rod clamps + copper tape or stranded conductor, with coordinated dimensions and full documentation. This simplifies project procurement and ensures material compatibility across all components. Contact us with your system design for a package quotation.
