HEX has manufactured cable lugs and terminal ends in India since 1991. Our range covers copper, tinned copper and aluminium lugs in tubular, ring, fork, pin, flat and bi-metal designs. It also includes mechanical (bolted) lugs, aluminium sector lugs, and 33 kV copper terminals. Products are made by Brass Copper & Alloy (I) Ltd., Mumbai, an ISO 9001 certified company. | Type | What it is |
|---|---|
| Copper tubular lugs | Crimp lugs for terminating stranded copper cable onto a stud or terminal. Variants include two-hole, bell mouth, economy, long barrel and extended or narrow palm. |
| Tinned copper lugs | Copper lugs with a tin finish, available as tubular, forged, ring and fork types, insulated and non-insulated. |
| Aluminium lugs | For aluminium conductors: compression, forged and heavy-duty long-barrel lugs, plus 3-core and 4-core sector lugs. |
| Bi-metal lugs | Aluminium–copper terminals for joining aluminium cable to copper equipment terminals or busbars. |
| Mechanical lugs | Bolted lugs, available with 2 or 4 screws. |
| Pin, flat and snap-on terminals | Smaller terminals for control and wiring applications, in insulated and non-insulated versions. |
Match the lug to the conductor and the connection point.
A cable lug is a terminal fitted to the end of a cable so it can be connected to a stud, terminal or busbar. Tubular lugs are normally crimped onto the conductor.
The lug should match the conductor. Copper lugs are for copper cable and aluminium lugs for aluminium cable. Aluminium is less conductive than copper, so aluminium cables need a larger cross-section for the same conductance.
A bi-metal lug has an aluminium barrel and a copper palm. It terminates aluminium cable onto copper busbars or equipment terminals. This avoids direct aluminium-to-copper contact, which can cause galvanic corrosion when moisture is present.
The tin finish gives better surface corrosion resistance than bare copper, which suits corrosion-prone environments.
DIN 46235 covers copper compression cable lugs and DIN 46329 covers aluminium compression cable lugs. Both are normally hexagonally crimped.
It lets you check that the conductor has been inserted fully into the barrel before crimping.
